AI hiveminds, networks of specialized models working together like corporate swarms, promise to democratize superintelligence. Instead of billion-dollar monoliths controlled by tech giants, we get adaptable collectives that reconfigure themselves to solve problems. Need a medical diagnosis? The hive assembles. Climate modeling? Different configuration, same network. It’s efficient, accessible, and potentially liberating.

The optimists see collaboration at scale: human creativity amplified by AI that doesn’t replace us but extends our reach. The hive does the grunt work while we focus on genuine insight.

But is it really different than the large model collectives? Hiveminds converge. Feed a thousand AI models similar data and objectives, and they produce obstentially identical outputs. Without controls and accountability to human oversight, collective intelligence becomes groupthink at silicon speed.

Why does that sound familiar? We’re watching silicone-fueled hiveminds destroy political discourse.

AI hivemind convergence is tribalism on steroids. Political tribes already function as human hiveminds, members converge on identical talking points, punish deviation, reward conformity. We’ve weaponized this discourse through computational speed and created self-indulgence through social media and configurable, personalized, and cultivated news sources. We’ve replaced independent thought with team loyalty, substituting slogans for nuance.

Now imagine that convergent pressure industrialized across everything: creativity, problem-solving, culture. AI hiveminds make mediocrity scalable.
